Retrospective long-term study by Monzavi et al. (2026) shows high survival and success rates for Zeramex XT
In the long-term study by Monzavi et al. (2026), the clinical and radiographic outcomes of contemporary ceramic implants were evaluated over follow-up periods of up to 11 years. The survival rate for Zeramex XT was 98.8%.
A total of 275 ceramic implants were evaluated, including 83 Zeramex XT implants. The implants were placed in private practice and followed for periods of up to 11 years. The mean follow-up period for the overall cohort was 4.6 years (median: 4 years; range: 4 months to 11 years). The cumulative Kaplan–Meier survival rate across all implant systems evaluated was 97.6%.
For the 83 Zeramex XT implants evaluated, the mean follow-up period was 4.2 years. The Kaplan–Meier survival rate was 98.8%, and the success rate was 95.1%. Mean first-year marginal bone loss (MBL) was 0.74 ± 0.30 mm (range: 0.20–1.50 mm). Peri-implant soft-tissue parameters were also very low: at the final examination, the modified Gingival Index (mGI) was 0.06 ± 0.24, and the modified Plaque Index (mPI) was 0.02 ± 0.15.
One implant failure occurred in the Zeramex XT group due to aseptic loosening. No clinical or radiographic signs of peri-implant inflammation were observed in this case. Three additional implants showed annual bone loss of more than 0.2 mm during the first year. No implant fractures were observed among the 83 Zeramex XT implants evaluated.
Overall, the findings for Zeramex XT within the observation period indicate a high implant survival rate of 98.8% and a success rate of 95.1%. The minimal marginal bone loss and low gingival and plaque index values support the positive clinical and radiographic findings.
